Yesterday, I took on the "Back to Core" workout in Asylum. This workout went from upper back all the way down to hamstrings. I knew that I was in for a challenge, but I felt I was ready for it.... with one problem.
Being that I have lower back issues, I was a little concerned about this workout. I have 2 hurniated discs in my back, but I did what I could and survived. There isn't really a way to modify these exercises, so I just took breaks when I felt any lower back pain.
I'm going to say this a LOT during these posts, but Asylum is NOT for beginners. These exercises are hardcore and take strength, endurance, flexibility, and mental focus. I'll be back tomorrow with my review of Vertical Plyo.

Asylum Day 2
Yesterday was Day 2 of Asylum. This was the Strength workout. From the moment I started the warm-up, I knew that I was in for a VERY tough workout. The quote from Shaun T that I loved was, "I know you're like 'Shaun T, this is the warm up?!?' I'll say it again... I am not playing wit you today!" With Asylum, it is ALL business (but still fun)
There were three basic areas that were focused on during this workout, shoulders, back, and chest. Even though these were the three focus areas, Shaun T made sure to hit everything. Each area went through 3 progressions of a variety of exercises. Each time you went to the next progression, it got harder. "The workout doesn't start until you are tired!"
Another thing I loved about this workout is that if you aren't ready for pul ups, he gives you an alternate exercise to do with dumbbells. I needed to go to the dumbells for most of the pull up routines.
The one downsside is that I really can't use my adjustable weights for this routine. Many times you are doing plank position exercises and push-ups with the dumbbells still in your hands. That's great except for the fact that my dumbbells are round. Guess I'll be heading to Walmart next week and getting some fixed dumbbells.
Another Asylum workout done and another sweat bath. Even though it was strength training, I still got my calorie burn in as well. I can't wait to do this one again, so that I can see how I improve now that I am more familiar with the form.

Asylum Day 1
Yesterday was my first day of Asylum (not counting the Fit Test). The first workout was speed and agility. The agility ladder really adds a new level of complexity to even basic Insanity movements such as In & Out Abs, Heisman, Scissor Runs, etc. It doesn't allow you to cheat when you get tired. Your feet HAVE to go to the same position every rep.
This was the single hardest workout I have ever done. By the time I was finished, I looked like I just stepped out of the shower because I was SOAKED in sweat. As exhausted as I was, I felt great.
Asylum does need a bit more space than any of the other workouts I've done from Beachbody. You need a space that is about 8 feet long. If you are going to use the speed rope, you also need enough height. Unfortunately, my basement is a low ceiling, so I have to go without the rope, but Shaun shows how to do that as well.
I'll be doing the second workout, Strength, today. I'm watching it as I type this and it looks like another killer workout. I can't wait!

The coaching opportunity explained
I became a Beachbody Coach in July of 2010. This coaching opportunity not only allows me to help others reach their health and fitness goals, but also make some decent money as well. In fact, the money I made from Beachbody was the only reason I was able to provide my family with presents at Christmas last year.
For more information about Team Beachbody, please visit http://www.beachbodycoach.com/thekoz or email me at bbcoachkoz@yahoo.com
This year I will be quitting my full time job and, at the age of 32, will be retiring from having to be an employee. I will be able to be a full-time business owner through Beachbody's opportunity. Check out the following video for more information about Beachbody and the coaching opportunity.

Little Decisions That Lead to Success or Failure
I sometimes get asked, "What is the big key to losing weight?" The truth is that it is our everyday decisions that ultimately lead to our success or our failure. We all know that we should exercise and maintain healthy eating habits. That decision is easy! So why doesn't everyone do it? There are two general answers for this.
The first is that making bad decisions is also easy. Deciding to get up and exercise for 30 minutes a day is easy. We all know the benefits of exercise (weight loss, more strength, more endurance, less chance of injury, etc). The problem is that it is also easy to get distracted in our daily routine that exercise becomes an after thought. The same can be said about eating healthy, making good financial decisions, having a happy marriage, or anything that we are trying to accomplish in our lives.
The second is that we are a society that demands instant gratification. The reason that most people quit exercising is that they don't see the results right away. If you were to exercise for 30 minutes today, you wouldn't wake up tomorrow and notice how much thinner you look. Chances are even after exercising every day for a week, you still wouldn't see the results of your hard work. It takes time to see the results of your daily decisions. The same can be said about our bad decisions. Will you instantly die of a heart attack if you eat a bacon double cheeseburger? Probably not. If you pick up a cigarette, will you have lung cancer after the first pack? Nope. It's that feeling of, "I worked out and I don't look or feel any better." or "I ate a super size meal with a milkshake yesterday and I'm not any fatter today" that really gets us in to some bad habits.
It's time to stop looking short-term and begin to look at the long-term effect of our decisions. I highly recommend reading the book, "The Slight Edge" This book will show you how everyday decisions aren't as small as we thought we were.
What decisions are you going to make today? Are you going to start working towards a healthier lifestyle? If so, I can help get you started. I'd love to find out more about you, so that I can help you find a complete fitness (exercise, nutrition, and support) program that will help you get started on the path to better health and a longer, happier life. What is a coach?
When I tell people that I am a Beachbody Coach, the most common response I get is, "What does a coach do?" Too many people think that I am a sales person for Beachbody. I'm not. I've been in sales before and, even though I was good at it, I didn't like the feeling it gave me.
Being in sales is all about convincing people to spend money that they may or may not have on crap that they don't really need. I worked at Best Buy a few years ago. Some of our training was about how to overcome the objection of "I can't afford this." Our job was to convince them to open up a credit card and go further in debt just to get a bigger television, video game system, surround sound, or whatever else we happen to be selling that day.
Being a Beachbody Coach is NOT about selling. What coaches do is provide people with information about fitness as well as the opportunity to become a coach and make money. After they get the information, we help answer any questions that they may have. It is not a coaches job to pursuade someone to do something. People have to want to get physically fit and/or financially free for their own reasons. If people start to do something for my reasons, they will get discouraged and quit.
Do I want everyone to become physically fit and healthy? YES! Can I force someone to do it? No. I do share information about health, fitness, and weight loss in an attempt to show people the importance of being healthy. People have to decide to take that first step on their own for their own reasons. Once they do that, I can help them.
If you've already started your journey towards a healthier lifestyle, what is your "why"? What is it that made you decide that it was time to get started? If you haven't started, I hope that this video can help you make that decision today:
The same can be said for sharing the coaching opportunity. My job is not to convince people that they have to do it. This is a decision that people need to make on their own. Is this the right time for you to start your own business and make some extra money? Would you do it to earn a little extra spending cash, build a business and be a stay at home mom/dad, buy that new car you've been thinking about? Whatever your reason is needs to be YOUR reason. Just like getting physically fit, my job is to share the information and answer any questions you may have.
Even if you are one of those people who never thoght about starting their own business, I would encourage you to watch these videos. They say that the best things in life happen when you least expect them. Here you go:
