Asylum Day 3

Yesterday, I took on the "Back to Core" workout in Asylum. This workout went from upper back all the way down to hamstrings. I knew that I was in for a challenge, but I felt I was ready for it.... with one problem.

Being that I have lower back issues, I was a little concerned about this workout. I have 2 hurniated discs in my back, but I did what I could and survived. There isn't really a way to modify these exercises, so I just took breaks when I felt any lower back pain.

I'm going to say this a LOT during these posts, but Asylum is NOT for beginners. These exercises are hardcore and take strength, endurance, flexibility, and mental focus. I'll be back tomorrow with my review of Vertical Plyo.

Asylum Day 2

Yesterday was Day 2 of Asylum. This was the Strength workout. From the moment I started the warm-up, I knew that I was in for a VERY tough workout. The quote from Shaun T that I loved was, "I know you're like 'Shaun T, this is the warm up?!?' I'll say it again... I am not playing wit you today!" With Asylum, it is ALL business (but still fun)

There were three basic areas that were focused on during this workout, shoulders, back, and chest. Even though these were the three focus areas, Shaun T made sure to hit everything. Each area went through 3 progressions of a variety of exercises. Each time you went to the next progression, it got harder. "The workout doesn't start until you are tired!"

Another thing I loved about this workout is that if you aren't ready for pul ups, he gives you an alternate exercise to do with dumbbells. I needed to go to the dumbells for most of the pull up routines.

The one downsside is that I really can't use my adjustable weights for this routine. Many times you are doing plank position exercises and push-ups with the dumbbells still in your hands. That's great except for the fact that my dumbbells are round. Guess I'll be heading to Walmart next week and getting some fixed dumbbells.

Another Asylum workout done and another sweat bath. Even though it was strength training, I still got my calorie burn in as well. I can't wait to do this one again, so that I can see how I improve now that I am more familiar with the form.

Asylum Day 1

Yesterday was my first day of Asylum (not counting the Fit Test). The first workout was speed and agility. The agility ladder really adds a new level of complexity to even basic Insanity movements such as In & Out Abs, Heisman, Scissor Runs, etc. It doesn't allow you to cheat when you get tired. Your feet HAVE to go to the same position every rep.

This was the single hardest workout I have ever done. By the time I was finished, I looked like I just stepped out of the shower because I was SOAKED in sweat. As exhausted as I was, I felt great.

Asylum does need a bit more space than any of the other workouts I've done from Beachbody. You need a space that is about 8 feet long. If you are going to use the speed rope, you also need enough height. Unfortunately, my basement is a low ceiling, so I have to go without the rope, but Shaun shows how to do that as well.

I'll be doing the second workout, Strength, today. I'm watching it as I type this and it looks like another killer workout. I can't wait!

The coaching opportunity explained

I became a Beachbody Coach in July of 2010. This coaching opportunity not only allows me to help others reach their health and fitness goals, but also make some decent money as well. In fact, the money I made from Beachbody was the only reason I was able to provide my family with presents at Christmas last year.

This year I will be quitting my full time job and, at the age of 32, will be retiring from having to be an employee. I will be able to be a full-time business owner through Beachbody's opportunity. Check out the following video for more information about Beachbody and the coaching opportunity.
